Mad Scientist Day - Part 2 (and a Linky Party!)

Mad Scientist Day... What a FUNTASTIC day!!!

Students rotated to each 2nd grade classroom to perform a science experiment.

Twenty minutes was spent in each room performing the experiment. The students also wrote their observations and their conclusions in their student books.

Here is our day in pictures.

Our AWESOME principal & asst.principal had lab coats made for each of us.

Isn't that adorable? (And so, so sweet!)

Here are the 10 experiments we did.

Here is the cover of the books the students carried to each room.

What terrific science activities would you like to share with us?  Add your link to the linky below.

AND... don't forget!!!  A little leprechaun and all his friends will be stopping by Sunday to offer you LOTS of freebies and a chance to win ONE HUNDRED TPT DOLLARS.  Don't forget to become a follower and check back in on Sunday to read all about this exciting event!

Mad Scientist Day Part 1

I had a CRAZY idea.... MAD SCIENTIST Day...

I am SO excited about it and so are the kiddos.

My entire grade level is having one ENTIRE day donated to science experiments.

This is the PLAN....I hope it works!  HA!

I have made a book for all the students to use (I'll share that on Thursday).

They will carry the book with them as they visit all 10 of the second grade classrooms.

We will only be able to devote 20 minutes to each experiment.

Sooooo...

Today and tomorrow during in science, we are watching this slide slow I made.

The students are completing the first part of each page by listing the name of the experiment, the supplies and forming a hypothesis.

We all put these slides on the big screen for students to see.

We've been learning about scientific inquiry this month.

What better way to end the month that with an entire day devoted to scientific inquiry?

You've probably seen this one making the rounds on Pinterest.

You can get all 10 slides to use in your own classroom by clicking here.
(Graphics by Fancy Dog Studio and Hello Borders.)

Here are some of their hypothesis so far.

If you are looking for some more great science experiments to use in your classroom, check out
Steve Spangler Science.

Be sure to check back Thursday to see some of these in action and grab the free booklet I've made for you!

Missing You!!!

I've been missing you all so much!

(Reality check here...Okay...I'm sure you don't miss me as much as I miss you!)

It's been a busy, busy month here in my household.

Remember the big wedding and the sadness because we were going to be empty nesters?

HAHAHA!!!!

FOOLED ME!!!!

Our oldest daughter and son-in-law (the one's who are expecting our first grandbaby in June) have moved back in.

They are building a house next to us, so they went ahead and listed their current home thinking in this economy it would take awhile to sale...NOT!

Soooo, long story short, we have been finishing our basement for them to live in.  Just got them moved in this weekend, and we are packed to the eaves!

Hopefully, everything is settling down and I'll have time to recover before April.
(Oh, yeah, forgot to mention, the youngest daughter who just got married, just purchased a house and we will be helping them paint and move in April.)

It's definitely a BUSY year for me!  :-)

Now that I've caught you up-to-date with more information than you probably wanted to know (HA!), here are some other things I would like to share with you.

Have you seen this?  Lots of wonderful bloggers have joined together to help this precious little girl.  I donated a product AND purchased the huge pack.  Please click on the picture to read more about her situation and consider donating.  Remember, it's also tax deductible!

Can you believe that March is almost here?  It's CRAZY how fast this year is speeding by!!!

Here is a freebie to help your kids keep track of the weather for the month.  I wanted to give you time to get it all ready for Friday, March 1st.

As an added bonus, because I've been neglecting you so much lately, for the rest of February, I am offering
Just e-mail me with the product you want free (equal or less value).

Adjectives and Self-portraits

Need a fun little project?  We reviewed adjectives this past week.

In addition to having students think of adjectives to describe themselves, I had students tell adjectives to describe others in the classroom.

This was so fun.  They had some really nice things to say about each other.

Then to draw self-portraits, we watched this great video.  I paused throughout the video for the students to add the details.

Try it yourself for a fun and engaging lesson by grabbing this little freebie.

There's a Lot Going On!

Did you score lots of SUPER deals at the big sale over at TPT on Sunday?
Most of my finds were ADORABLE graphics to use in my units.  Let me just say, I don't think I will EVER need to buy borders again....EVER!  HA!

Krista at Creative Clips is one of my absolute favorite graphics store to purchase from!  I got 70 new borders just from her store!

I just found KB Konnected on Sunday, and I'm SOOOO glad I did! More great borders (see what I mean by not EVER needing more again??) and these ABSOLUTELY DARLING Rockin' Kiddos.  As soon as I saw these, an idea formed in my head!!!

These rainbow papers and Honey Bees makes me SO ready for springtime!!
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah-Designs is another fab place to shop!

Another FANTASTIC clipart store I just found is Mr. Magician.

I've been eyeing Hello Fonts for a while now.  I was so glad I got to purchase them along with (yep...you guessed it!) MORE borders from Jen Jones- Hello Literacy.

The ONLY item I purchased that was NOT clipart was this unit from my sweet bloggy friend, Danielle, at Crayonbox Learning.  This is just what I needed to use in Social Studies.

I stayed up WAAAAAYYYY too late Sunday night. I just KNEW we wouldn't have school for the kiddos on Monday and was hoping for a teacher workday (and sleeping a little late) since this is what it looked like at my house Sunday morning.

Instead, it really warmed up, and this is what it looked like when I left for shool on Monday morning.
(This pic shows the same tree.)

What a difference a day can make!

Now, remember those ADORABLE Rockin' graphics I showed you that I purchased on Sunday??

Well, it was certainly "speaking" to me and this unit just seemed to write itself!  I finished it today and loaded it into my store tonight.  You can find it here.

Here is a preview of some of the items you will find in the unit.

A board game reviewing weathering, erosion, types of soil, and fossils.

A game reviewing rocks and minerals.

A craftivity including writing for "My Pet Rock Star."

Two more whole group bonus games are in also included in the unit.

Don't forget about

Christi has a great multiplication freebie for you today.  Click on the above picture to get it!

I'm linking up with

to see what everyone bought Sunday.  I guess my wishlist will be FULL again!  hahaha

So, that's how my week is going so far.  How about yours??
